The shovels produced by Ekrem Esen in the city of Biga in Çanakkale are used in gondolas in Venice, a famous tourist attraction in Italy.
Esen graduated from the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) business administration department and continues his grandfather profession as the third generation. Saying that he woke up with the sound of planing and sawing since childhood, Esen told that he had decided to continue his profession after finishing the university. Esen, who has produced six sand beech trees and produced sandal shovels from Düzce and Sakarya during the year, said he made 4 thousand boats and sandalwoods per year. A significant portion of the shovels produced are exported to Esen's shovels used in Venice gondolas, Germany, Qatar, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy.
